Area Converter

Convert square metres, hectares, acres, square feet and square miles in real time.

What it is

Area Converter turns square millimeters, square centimeters, square meters, square kilometers, hectares, acres, square inches, square feet and square miles into each other as you type. 10 acres equal about 4.05 hectares, and 500 ft² equal about 46.45 m²: useful for reading land listings from different countries, where acres and hectares often show up on the same page. The acre-to-hectare conversion is direct in this tool, no need to go through square meters as a manual intermediate step.

  • From mm² to square miles: 9 units, including those used for land measurements
  • 10 acres ≈ 4.05 ha, 500 ft² ≈ 46.45 m²: instant conversions without intermediate steps
  • Linked to the length converter: if you have a plot's side lengths, convert them there first, then compute and convert the resulting area here

How it works

#1
Pick the starting unit
Choose from mm², cm², m², km², hectares, acres, in², ft² or mi².
#2
Type the value
Enter the number to convert: the result in the other unit appears instantly.
#3
Check the common table
Below the result you'll find standard multiples already converted, useful for comparing typical plot sizes.

Features

Acres and hectares in one tool
Direct acre ↔ hectare conversion (1 acre ≈ 0.4047 ha) without going through square meters as an intermediate step: useful for reading land listings from international sources that mix the two systems.
From the lab to the land registry
mm² and cm² for technical use, m² and km² for everyday use, hectares and acres for land: 9 units in one tool.
Common conversions table
Standard multiples (1, 10, 100, 1000 m²...) already calculated below the result, for quick comparisons without a calculator.
Linked to the length converter
Area doesn't come from converting a single length: use the length converter for individual sides, multiply them, then convert the result here into other area units.

FAQ

Exactly 10,000 m².
1 acre equals about 0.4047 hectares; conversely, 1 hectare equals about 2.47 acres.
They come from two different systems (imperial for the acre, metric for the hectare), and the ratio between them (almost 2.5x) isn't intuitive: an international property listing might quote either one without converting.
There's no direct conversion: an area needs two measurements (width and height) multiplied together. Convert the sides first with the length converter, calculate the area, then convert it here into another area unit.
About 46.45 m² (500 × 0.09290304).
